Genesis 17:9-22
I. Rely on God’s promises
1. God initiates the promises (Gen. 17:2-8; 10-11; cf. 6:18; 9:9; 15:9-18)
2. God maintains the promises (Gen. 17:2-8; 7:16; 12:1-4; Heb. 6:17-18)
3. God gracefully offers the promises (Gen. 17:9)
II. Relate to God’s promises
1. We must live in his promises
* We learn his promises (Gen. 17:10-12)
*We trust his promises (Gen. 17:23)
*We question our ability (Gen. 17:15-18)
2. We must live in his presence
*God gives us his Spirit (Gen. 17:4; cf. Acts 2:38; Rom. 5:5; 8:8-11)
*God’s Spirit is God (1 Cor. 2:10-15)
*God’s Spirit is power (Mic. 3:8; Acts 1:8; Rom. 15:9; 2 Tim. 1:7)
III. Relay God’s Promises
1. Through the signs of promise (Gen. 17:23)
*NT Covenant (Rom. 6:4-5; 1 Cor. 11:23-32; Luke 22:17-20)
2. Through blessing others (Gen. 17:15, 19, 20)
3. Through obeying immediately (Gen. 17:23)
